The SSC JE examination is conducted by Staff Selection Commission(SSC).In this exam, the candidates apply for the post of Electrical Mechanical, Junior Engineering Civil, Quantity Surveying, and contract posts for several Organizations/ Ministries/departments in the Government of India.
The SSC JE is a national-level examination that is conducted in online or offline mode. This exam is divided into Paper 1 and Paper 2. Paper 1 is a computer-based exam(online mode) and paper 2 is all about pen and paper exams ( offline mode). The first paper consists of Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) of 200 marks and the second paper contains Descriptive questions of 300 marks. The time limit for the exam is 2 two hours for each paper. However,40 minutes extra is given to the differently-abled candidates.
The SSC JE examination is conducted in two main languages namely: Hindi and English. There is a negative marking of 0.25 marks on paper 1.
SSC JE Exam Pattern for Paper 1
This paper is conducted online mode and has only multiple-choice questions. Paper 1 is divided into three sections: 1. General Intelligence, 2. General Awareness and 3. General Engineering (civil/ mechanical/ electrical). However, in Section 3 candidates can choose subjects from the Subjects- Civil, Electrical, and Mechanical. Both sections 1 and 2 consist of 50 questions for each paper. And these sections check Candidates’ general awareness and reasoning abilities. Section 3 contains 100 questions based on the candidate’s basics and knowledge of any one subject from the following (Civil, Electrical, and Mechanical).
SSC JE Exam Pattern for Paper 2
Paper 2 is a conventional paper conducted in offline mode and includes Descriptive questions.
This paper is 300 marks and the time limit is 2 hours. The candidates are given the choice to apply for any one subject from the 3 parts. Part 1 has Civil & Structural engineering, and Part 2 consists of Electrical engineering, Part 3 has Mechanical engineering. And Paper 2 does not have negative markings. During the exam, candidates can bring a calculator, steam table, slide- rule, and logarithm table.
What is the Syllabus for the SSC JE examination?
The SSC JE Syllabus has been classified into various stages. The first one is a computer-based exam, which has three sections – General Intelligence, General Awareness, and General Engineering. The General Intelligence and Reasoning section contains Verbal and nonverbal types of questions.
This section also indulges topics based on visualization, similarities, space, analogies, discrimination, judgment, observation, arithmetical reasoning, arithmetical numbers, series, visual memory, decision-making, problem-solving analysis, verbal and figure classification, and so on. This test is mainly conducted to test a candidate’s problem-solving ability and analytical reasoning.
The General Awareness section is basically for checking candidates’ awareness of the environment and/or their views on society. The questions in this section are related to current affairs, different observations, and experience in a scientific aspect. The questions are also based on India and its neighboring countries, geography, history, culture, general polity, scientific research, The economic scene, etc.
Section 3 consists of three subjects: Civil Mechanical Electrical engineering. Civil Engineering includes concepts like hydraulic, soil mechanics, irrigation engineering, transportation engineering, environmental engineering, etc. Electrical Engineering indulges topics like magnetic currents, electrical machines, synchronous machines, Generation, basic electronics, circuit law, electrical energy, etc. Mechanical Engineering consists of concepts like properties of pure substance, 1 st law of thermodynamics and 2 nd law of thermodynamics, engineering mechanics, IC engines, fluid Statics, and air compressor.
