With oil prices near $60 a barrel, Louisiana is growing a surprising amount of jobs related to offshore oil and gas production, but the pipeline projects needed to move the oil are being stalled by the Trump administration. The current administration supports domestic energy producers, but wants to allow offshore drilling in the Arctic Ocean and off the Atlantic coast.
With the federal government at a standstill on the issue, Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards and the state’s congressional delegation are urging the companies building pipelines to approve their projects before federal officials make a final decision.

Wednesday Astronomers have nicknamed the stellar rotation, which can stretch over hundreds of thousands of years, one of the “travelling-car rotation.” The discovery was made using NASA’s orbiting Chandra X-ray Observatory, and is based on a single snapshot. It reveals details about the inner workings of these carbon stars and how they can twist and warp the surrounding material. Tuesday A study from the University of Massachusetts in Lowell shows that some people may experience brain changes that can make them psychologically “trapped” in unhealthy job or relationship situations. The study is based on neuroimaging research. If brain changes occur, people can lose the ability to change their job or relationship positions. While the brain changes are usually transient, over time they can become permanent. Researchers had participants give up alcohol for a week, play a game called The Resistance, and then return to normal alcohol consumption. Participants had regular brain scans as well as EEG readings of brain waves. Researchers found that an imbalance of serotonin caused one group of participants to give up alcohol, making their brains more sensitive to stress. These changes in the brain persisted after alcohol consumption was reduced, suggesting that these people may suffer permanent changes.
